Friends of the LibraryThis is a featured page

In March of 2008 the Friend of the Thomas St. Angelo Library came together to support the library building project. The group started with National Library Week coffee and cookies and a garden party fundraiser in April, they sewed book bags to be given away with a library donation. In June they raised $3000 selling brats at the local food stand. In July they served coffee and desserts when the building committee unveiled the new library plans. During the summer they helped bring in over $20,000 for the new building by preparing and mailing over 2000 pledge cards. In August they walked in the local festival parade wearing hard hats and carrying golden shovels to let people know that after the parade we would be breaking ground for the new building. In October they raised over $5000 with a tour of homes/theme basket auction. In December they assisted with a wine and cheese auction event. In February of 2009 they raised more money at a cabaret/chicken dinner held in partnership with the local theater group. On April 18th they helped to move into the new addition and served lunch to all the volunteers. Two days later they had a special coffee event for Katherine Robinson, a much loved former librarian who is now confined to a wheel chair. The event celebrated Mrs. Robinson’s years of service and the fact that our new facility is accessible to all. Over 100 people came to honor Katherine and see the new library. In May they celebrated one of our librarians 30 years of service. In June they raised $1000 at the Art in the Park book sale. In July the Friends served food to over 200 people who came to the official grand opening of the new facility and repeated the brat stand fundraiser. Last weekend their float promoting our pajama story time won second place in the local festival parade. Everyone connected with the new library realizes that we could not have accomplished all we have without the help of our Friends. The group is now moving on to encourage programming at the new facility. They recently voted to purchase a movie license for the library. In September they will be serving cookies during an author visit and for a special children’s program. They are already planning an incredible celebration for Halloween.
